Easton, Mass. - With the help of a new career-high 42 points from reigning Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Ronnie Silva, the Adelphi University men's basketball team collected its fourth straight win on Tuesday, securing a 75-70 win at Stonehill College.
The Panthers (10-4, 5-2 NE10) matched their season long win streak with the win, as the Skyhawks (8-5, 4-3 NE10) lose just their sixth contest all-time to Adelphi since 2005.
Silva scored five points shy of an NE10 single game scoring record, and contributed 20 or more points for the fourth-consecutive contest. Of his 11 field goals made, eight came from beyond the arc, and he also finished with a 12-for-13 effort at the free throw line.
The visitors went 8-for-15 from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes en route to a 16-point advantage at halftime. With only 20 seconds of a lead at the start of the contest, Stonehill struggled from the floor offensively, despite holding an advantage in rebounds.
The Skyhawks managed to put together a nine-point stretch in the early going of the second frame that brought them within seven points of the Panthers, however five straight points from
Adonis Williams pushed the Adelphi lead back to double-digits. Stonehill managed to make it a two-posession game inside of a minute left in regulation but spent the final minute sending their opponent to the free throw line.
After the 49 second mark, Silva drew five of the final six fouls committed by Stonehill, finishing a perfect 10-for-10 from the stripe, helping the Brown and Gold hold on for a 75-70 victory.
Adelphi will look to win it's fifth straight this weekend when they host Saint Anselm College (Jan. 15) at 3:30 p.m. inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
