Garden City, N.Y. - A game that was 38-35 at the half,
Ronnie Silva scored 24 of his game-high 31 points across the game's final 20 minutes to lead the Adelphi University men's basketball team to an 83-71 victory over NE10 rival Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday night at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
After dropping a season-high 34 points at Bloomfield on Monday, Silva followed that up only two nights later with a 31-point game on 10-of-19 shooting, including a 6-for-9 showing from deep in the second half.
Adelphi (8-4, 3-2 NE10) shot a scintillating 50.9 percent (29-of-57) from the field and 45.9 percent from three-point land in the contest, while matching a season-high with 17 three-point makes.
The spotlight also shined on
Dave Duke, who won his 100th career game with the program. In his now seventh year coaching the Panthers, Duke possesses a career record of 100-84, translating to a .543 winning percentage.
Duke becomes only the fifth coach in Adelphi history to amass 100 career victories, joining an elite class of George Faherty, Jim Flanagan, James Cosgrove and Jim O'Connor to have ever achieved the feat.
The Panthers trailed in the second half, but led 59-56 with six minutes left, before Silva put on a show.
He buried three consecutive treys and accounted for 14 of the team's points in a 22-8 run that put the game out of reach in the final minutes.
Aside from Silva's exceptional night,
Isaiah Salter went off for 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
Chris Coalmon rounded out the double-digit scorers for Adelphi with 13 points.
Duke and the Panthers will now hit the road and face Stonehill College on Tuesday (Jan. 11) at 7:30 p.m. in Easton, Mass.
