Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Starts Second Half of Season with Win at Bloomfield

Bloomfield, NJ - Behind a 34-point effort from Ronnie Silva, the Adelphi University men's basketball team picked up their first win in the new year on Monday evening, capturing an 88-62 win over Bloomfield College in non-conference action.

Silva was one of three players who reached double-figures, as over half of his points came from beyond the arc (6-for-11). This is the second time this season that the New Hampshire native drained a season-high six three-pointers. Adonis Williams went 8-for-10 from the field and notched his fourth double-double of the season, accounting for 17 points and 10 rebounds.

This is the first time since 2009 - and only the second time since 2005 - that the Panthers (7-4) picked up the win and scored over 80 points, still trailing 4-5 overall in the all-time matchup.

After two early ties in the opening half, Adelphi cruised to a double-figure lead, courtesy of a jumper from Williams at 9:45. The visitors managed to keep the hosting Bears (2-9) at bay and closed out the frame on an 11-2 run to lead by 12 at the break.

Bloomfield's shooting from the field improved in the second half, but as did the Panthers' as they went for 8-for-15 from three point range as a team. The Brown and Gold led by at most 26 points, when Justin Forest came in off the bench and drained one of Adelphi's eight threes in the frame.

The Panthers experience a quick turnaround and play at home for the first time in 2022 on Wednesday, Jan. 5. The squad will host Southern Connecticut State at 7:30 p.m., following a 5:30 p.m. tip-off for the women inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
