Women's Basketball Stuns SNHU in Overtime, 56-54

Manchester, N.H. - Senior guard Ty'zhea Hawkins provided the winning heroics again Thursday in the Adelphi University women's basketball team's 56-54 overtime victory against Southern New Hampshire University in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at Stan Spirou Field House.

SNHU (12-2, 6-1 NE10) entered the contest with only one non-conference blemish on its record and had received votes in the latest WBCA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

Adelphi (10-8, 8-5 NE10) led 16-9 after the opening quarter, but trailed by a point (27-26) at the half.

Although the Panthers went back ahead in the fourth, the visitors fell into a 50-44 hole at the 4:17 mark.

Adelphi came down with a couple of key offensive rebounds late that eventually led to Emma Cuccurullo's game-tying put-back lay-up with 37 seconds left in regulation.

In overtime, the Panthers limited the Penmen to only one field goal across the entire five-minute period.

After SNHU's Meg Knollmeyer drained a pair of free throws to even the score, Hawkins pulled up for the winning three from the the top of the key with 5.4 seconds left.

Hawkins finished the night with a third-straight 16-point game. Emily Miccile posted her first double-double since Nov. 20 with a 10-point, 14-rebound game. Sarah Deyo collected f0 points and seven rebounds against her former team.

The Panthers are now winners of six straight and will next face Bentley University in NE10 action at the Center for Recreation and Sport on Saturday (Jan. 29) at 1:30 p.m.
