Worcester, Mass. - After their largest margin of defeat just two days ago, the Adelphi University men's basketball team put on an offensive performance at Assumption on Wednesday, en route to securing a 76-55 victory.
As a team, the Panthers (11-6, 6-4) shot just under 50 percent from the field, draining nine three-pointers and going 17-of-20 at the free throw line. Leading the team was
Ronnie Silva with 19, as one of four players to reach double digit scoring.
Adonis Williams and
Isaiah Salter were responsible for 15 and 11 respectively, while
Aristotelis Sotiriou came off the bench to contribute a career-high 14.
Adelphi got things started right out of the gate with a
Chris Coalmon three pointer which kick-started a 13-2 run which ultimately put the Panthers in the drivers seat for the remainder of the contest. The Greyhounds (7-5, 3-5 NE10) were held scoreless for the almost the first four minutes of action, but used an 8-2 run later on to bring the visitor lead down to single digits.
Back-to-back free throws from the home team just about evened the score, however the Brown and Gold were responsible for the final 14 points of the half, heading into the locker room with a 14-point edge over their competition.
The hosts were once again kept quiet at the start of the second half, as Adelphi went on to pour in eight points before Assumption broke the silence at 16:37. A layup from Sotirou just before that gave the visiting team a 21-point advantage, a number that wouldn't fluctuate much for the remainder of the contest.
The Panthers led by at-most 26, all the while keeping the Greyhounds to 46 percent shooting from the field, and 12 percent from beyond the arc. Adelphi was also able to capitalize on turnovers from Assumption, scoring 24 points off Greyhound miscues.
Head Coach
Dave Duke and the squad wrap up the week on their home court this Saturday, Jan. 22 when they host Franklin Pierce as part of a double-dip with the women's team. Opening tip for the men will begin approximately at 3:30 p.m.
