Women's Basketball Loses Hard-Fought Battle at Stonehill, 62-51

Easton, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team dropped its re-match with Stonehill College on Tuesday, falling 62-51 in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at Merkert Gymnasium.

The Panthers (4-8, 2-5 NE10) and Skyhawks (4-5, 3-4 NE10) met in a non-conference tune-up on Long Island on Dec. 12, in which Adelphi prevailed by an 82-75 final.

After a tightly-contested first quarter, Stonehilll built up a 12-point second-quarter lead, before a 13-6 response pulled Adelphi within 36-31 at the half.

The Brown and Gold made their first four shots from the field and a pair of Emma Cuccurullo free throws closed the gap to a one-possession game at 30-27 with 4:09 to go.

Adelphi eventually tied the score on a Sydney Rosenoff three-pointer, and a subsequent Emily Miccile lay-up gave the Panthers their first lead (40-38) at the midway point of the third quarter.

The visitors were unable to stave off another Stonehill surge though, as the Skyhawks outscored Adelphi 24-11 over the remainder of the contest.

Despite taking the lead, the Panthers were limited to 25.7 percent shooting (9-of-35) across the final 20 minutes.

Miccile was the team's leading scorer for a fourth-consecutive game. She had 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Ty'zhea Hawkins and Cuccurullo both joined Miccile in double figures, scoring 12 points and 10 points, respectively. Cuccurullo also grabbed seven rebounds, while Rebecca Lee pulled down a team-high nine boards.

Head Coach Sade Jackson and her Adelphi squad will continue their crossover play with the NE10 Northeast Division on Saturday (Jan. 15), when they welcome Saint Anselm College to the Center for Recreation and Sport for a 1:30 p.m. tip-off.
