Newark, Del. - Despite leading 1-0 at the half, the No. 15 Adelphi University men's soccer team surrendered three second-half goals in a 3-1 loss to Wilmington University on Sunday at the WU Athletics Complex.
For the second time in as many contests, the Panthers (0-1-1) jumped out in front on an early goal.
Only 6:10 into the match,
Paolo Marciano played a cross into the box for
Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca, who set up
Filippo Peri for a tap-in and the game's opening goal.
Although Adelphi took a 1-0 lead into the break, Wilmington (2-0) kept the defense on its heels for much of the match.
After striking the crossbar in the 42nd minute, the WIldcats came out of halftime and outshot the Panthers 10-6 in the final 45 minutes.
Along the way, Wilmington buried three second-half goals (two in 2:28), including the eventual game-winner in the 84th minute.
With 6:48 left in regulation, the hosts broke a 1-1 tie, when Lautaro Berisso centered a pass for a Marcus Hedemann touch that beat Adelphi keeper
Harry Beasley.
