Yonker, Meehan Lead Volleyball in Five-Set Win Over Ursuline College

Clarion, PA - On the final day of the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament, the Adelphi University volleyball program saw four players in double-digit kills and digs en route to a five-set win over Ursuline College on Saturday.

Samantha Meehan produced a double-double performance with a career-best 17 kills and 16 digs as Jamie Yonker collected a new single game high 30 digs for herself. Rookies Kiendra Delaney and Anna Oden both recorded 13 kills apiece, combining for four block assists as Katie Schloss rounded out the four players in double digits with 11 kills.

Adelphi (3-1) held the Arrows (0-3) to a .130 hitting percentage and finished the decision with the advantage in kills and blocks.

The Panthers managed to steal the first two sets with identical scores of 25-19, before Ursuline flipped the script and took the next two sets with 25-22 and 25-21 decisions.

A back-and-forth affair to start, the Arrows worked out to a 5-2 lead in the fifth and final frame. Kambel Fiser, who finished the contest with a new season-best 48 assists, sparked a 5-2 run for Adelphi that brought them within one of Ursuline, capped with a kill from Samantha Collins. Back-to-back kills from the freshmen Kiendra and Noelle Alberda coupled with an attack error from the Arrows evened the score at 10-all to put the pressure on both sides.

Adelphi remained poised down the stretch, stealing five of the final six points of the contest, which included a huge block from Fiser and Collins to make it 14-12. Meehan finished off her career- game with the final kill, sending the Panthers back to Garden City with a 3-1 overall record.

The volleyball team will take to its home court on Tuesday, September 7 when they meet up with Chestnut Hill at 7:00 p.m.
