Women's Soccer Erupts in Second Half in 5-2 Win Over Le Moyne

Garden City, N.Y. - Despite trailing twice in the game, the Adelphi University women's soccer team exploded for five goals in the second half Wednesday night and defeated Le Moyne College, 5-2, in NE10 action at Motamed Field.

The five goals, which all came in the second half, were Adelphi's most in a game this season and its highest output in a single game since Sept. 9, 2017.

Before tonight, the last time the Panthers (2-3-1, 2-3 NE10) scored five or more goals in a half was in a 9-0 rout of Bloomfield on Sept. 2, 2016.

As the whistle sounded to start the second half, the field opened up. A total of 4:34 elapsed before the scoreless tie was broken.

Adelphi found itself in two one-goal deficits early in the second half, but answered both times soon after falling behind.

Only 29 seconds following Le Moyne's first goal, Eleonora D'Angelo found no better time for her first collegiate goal, when she buried a re-directed Alexis Hellman cross for the equalizer.

Ten minutes later, Carly Issing fired a volley past Le Moyne keeper Allison Moreau to level the score at 2-2. That was the last deficit the Panthers faced all night, and it didn't take long for them to grab the lead.

Less than five minutes after Issing's goal, a tricky bounce in the attacking third evaded the defense and led to Maria D'Angelo's go-ahead tally and first-ever goal in an Adelphi uniform.

In the game's final minutes, Madison Raposo and Ashley Borriello put the game away for good with their first goals of the 2021 campaign.

Fifteen of Adelphi's 22 shots on the evening were on target. Overall, the Panthers outshot the Dolphins, 22-6. Sarah Hofmeier earned her first win of the year and made two saves in the process.

Head Coach Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers are back at it Saturday (Oct. 2), when they host American International College in an NE10 showdown at 3 p.m. at Motamed Field.
