Farmingdale, N.Y. - The first win for the Adelphi University men's tennis team in the 2021-22 season is already in the books.
In their first fall tune-up on Monday, the Panthers (1-0) dismantled NCAA Division III Farmingdale State College, 8-1.
As a result of playing a Division III opponent on the road, the doubles matches counted individually, instead of as a single decision.
Adelphi took two out of the three, after the No. 2 and No. 3 tandems of
Thiago Negrao and
Thomas Horsley, and
Andrew Ray and
Luke Attride-Stirling respectively prevailed 8-3 and 8-0.
It was a clean sweep for the Panthers in singles, where all six flights were decided in straight sets.
Four different Adelphi players denied their opponent a game in singles.
Reece Farrow (6-1, 6-0) and Negrao (6-2, 6-0) both took the court for their first dual singles matches and won comfortably.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers will play one more match this fall on Tuesday, Oct. 19, when they face NCAA Division I Fordham University in the Bronx at 2 p.m.
