Easton, Mass. - Despite a strong defensive performance, the Adelphi University field hockey team lost a hard fought 2-0 game at No. 5 Stonehill College on Saturday.
Although Adelphi (3-2, 1-1 NE10) was held off the scoreboard, the Panthers attempted nine more shots on the day than the Skyhawks (7-1, 5-0 NE10).
In just the fourth minute of play, Raegan Hickey worked one past Adelphi's defense. Then, in the 21st minute, Emma Mawn scored to extend the lead to 2-0.
The home team only registered one more shot for the remainder of the contest.
Adelphi pressed on Stonehill goalie Abigail Campbell, forcing her to face 13 shots on goal.
Giana McKeough and
Jackie Brown produced five and three shots, respectively.
The Brown and Gold's defense, backed by
Amanda Montiel in the cage, only allowed the Skyhawks to put six shots on goal. Montiel collected four saves as a result.Â
Adelphi will return home to play No. 4 Assumption University on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 4:30 p.m. at Motamed Field.
