Manchester, N.H. - After scoring the game-winning goal in overtime three nights ago, Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca netted a second-half brace Saturday that propelled the Adelphi University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference action at Penmen Stadium.
The two Descalzo goals came more than midway through the second half and only 5:21 apart.
With his two goals, Descalzo jumped into the team lead for scoring with five goals and 12 points. He also has seven points (3 goals, 1 assist) in his last two matches.
Although Adelphi (3-3-1, 2-1 NE10) and SNHU (3-4, 1-2 NE10) finished the first half in a scoreless deadlock, the Panthers dominated play in the opening 45 minutes, to the tune of a 10-2 shot differential.
Over the full 90 minutes, Adelphi limited SNHU to only two shots on goal -- the last of which resulted in a goal that cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 80th minute.
Descalzo struck for his first goal in the 69th minute, when he hit a perfect header inside the right post off a
Paolo Marciano cross from the right flank.
Less than six minutes later,
Benji Jones hit Descalzo with a through ball that he finished into the low right corner of the net, making it a 2-0 game.
The Panthers will now look to build off this recent road trip, as they return home for a showdown with Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday (Sept. 28) at 7:30 p.m. at Motamed Field.
