Waltham, Mass. - Despite another staunch defensive effort, the Adelphi Univerwsity women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference action Tuesday afternoon at the Bentley Soccer Field in Waltham.
Although the Panthers have opened the season at 1-3-1, Adelphi has only allowed five goals through its first five games.
Even with outshooting and outpossessing the Falcons (3-1-2, 3-0 NE10) throughout the contest, Bentley struck twice in the second half to account for the only scoring of the game.
The two goals came within a span of 6:30.
First, in the 63rd minute, Dana Goulet made a run off a Brooke Jones touch and split two defenders with a tie-breaking shot that beat
Sarah Hofmeier to the right corner.
Then, in the 70th minute, Bentley went the length of the field, ultimately resulting in a Liliana Silva tap-in off a cross from Amanda Adriano.
Carly Issing registered a pair of shots on goal in the first half. Her first attempt was a hard strike that fell into the lap of Bentley keeper Kat Hassapis.
Hofmeier stopped four shots for the Panthers, while Hassapis made five saves for the Falcons.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and her Adelphi squad now have a week off to re-group, before hosting Le Moyne College next Wednesday (Sept. 29) at 7 p.m. at Motamed Field.
