Volleyball Tops Wilmington, Virginia State in Three Sets

Wilmington, Del. - The Adelphi University volleyball team continued their road swing this weekend with double-feature at the University of Wilmingtonm first facing off against the Wildcats, followed by a non-conference meeting against Virginia State.

Game One: Adelphi 3, Wilmington 0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-23)
With the help of a new career-high kills from Delaney Kiendra (17), the Panthers (8-2) secured the out-of-conference victory over the Wildcats in their first match of the day. For the game, the team posted a hitting percentage just under .300 as the Panthers held a 52-32 advantage in kills overall. Samantha Meehan was also in double-figures with 12 kills, adding 10 digs for her second double-double this season.

Kambel Fiser paced the attack with a new three-set mark of 45 assists, helping the team to a .421 hitting percentage in the second set alone.

Adelphi took an early lead in the opener, which they held on to for remainder of the first set. The Wildcats (4-5) put up a fight, consistently earning the sideout in order to stay in the game. Jamaya Harris captured the final point for the Brown and Gold, concluding the set with a service ace.

Starting the second set in the same way, Fiser kicked off the action with an ace en route to a 4-0. It was Kiendra's kill at 13-12 that sparked a 6-0 run, with Jamie Yonker at the service line. Noelle Alberda earned the point for the Panthers at 20-14, but Harris's two aces down the stretch sealed the deal for the visitors to move to 2-0 in the game.

A Fiser ace in the third set made way for a come-from-behind run for Adelphi after finding themselves down by at most six, which produced a 9-3 run to put the Panthers back in the drivers seat. The Wildcats staged a comeback in which they evened the score at 23-all, but kills from Samantha Collins and Jaydin Nowak brought an end to the contest in favor of Adelphi.

Game Two: Adelphi 3, Virginia State 0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-15)
The Panthers cruised to a three-set victory in their second match of the day against the Trojans of Virginia State University, committing five or fewer errors in each set, with their best hitting percentage coming in the opener.

Kiendra continued her offensive prowess, leading the team with 10 kills. Fellow rookie Lilyen McCarthy put up career numbers at the net, collecting four solo blocks while chipping in on three others despite Virginia State logging the same number of team blocks (8).

Adelphi managed to string together several runs in each of the sets to maintain the advantage, while holding the Trojans to a zero or negative hitting percentage overall.
