Garden City, N.Y. - A 57th-minute goal from
Carly Issing stood up as the game's only score and propelled the Adelphi University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over NE10 foe Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday night at Motamed Field.
The win was Adelphi's (1-1-1, 1-1 NE10) first of the 2021 campaign, and its first in nearly 700 days.
It was the first collegiate goal for the freshman, who flicked a 50-50 ball over the SCSU (1-3, 0-1 NE10)Â keeper, after making a long run on a pass from
Kayla Mushorn.
Later in the half, the Panthers twice nearly doubled their lead in the 77th minute, but bothÂ
Micaella Romagno and
Lola Kochanskyj unluckily struck the crossbar.
While Adelphi tried to preserve the one-goal lead in the final minutes, SCSU came on strong over the last 11:53.
Senior keeper
Krista Aliscio was tall to the task though, swallowing up all three shots that came her way in that span. Through three matches, Aliscio's goals-against average sits at an impeccable 0.50.
The Panthers controlled possession at an outstanding 64 percent rate in the game and outshot the Owls, 21-10. Additionally, Adelphi earned 10 corner kicks and held SCSU without a single one.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and her team are right back at home Saturday (Sept. 18), when they host Saint Anselm College in another NE10 showdown at 3 p.m. at Motamed Field.Â
