Waltham, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team is off to a 2-0 start to conference play, after Sunday's 7-0 victory over Bentley University in NE10 action at Brandeis University's Cordish Tennis Center in Waltham.
The Panthers are off to their first 3-0 start since the 2018-19 season.
Adelphi cleaned up for the second-straight day, winning all six singles matches and the team doubles point.
All six singles results also came in straight sets.
Louisa Junghanns (6-0, 6-2) and
Barbie Quagliardi (6-1, 6-0) lost only a combined three games between the No. 1 and No. 2 singles flights, respectively.
Caterina Federici prevailed 6-2, 6-3 in third singles, while
Amanda Franstedt played the minimum number of sets in a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 4.
Carolina Chaves earned a 6-3, 6-1 decision at the No. 5 flight.
Jenelle Downer secured her first win as a Panther at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles, the No. 1 and No. 2 tandems of
Barbie Quagliardi and
Caterina Federici, and
Louisa Junghanns and
Amanda Franstedt, won by identical 6-1 decisions.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad will play one more match before ITA's begin. They will host American International College this Tuesday (Sept. 14) at 1 p.m.
