Oceanside, N.Y. - For the third time in four days, the Adelphi University women's tennis team has shut out an opponent. The victim on Tuesday was American International College in a 7-0 victory in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Point Set Racquet Club.
In a match where doubles wasn't counted as a single decision, the Panthers (4-0, 3-0 NE10) only lost a combined one game between the two matches played.
Barbie Quagliardi and
Caterina Federici claimed a 6-1 win at the top spot, while
Julia Kielan and
Carolina Chaves jumped up to No. 2 doubles and posted a 6-0 sweep.
In singles, Quagliardi started her first match at the No. 1 flight since last March and prevailed in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Amanda Franstedt, who only appeared in singles, squeezed out a 7-6 (7-5) win in her first set at No. 2, which was followed by a convincing 6-0 shutout in the second set.
Kielan cleaned up at third singles, via a 6-1, 6-0 decision. Chaves was also a straight-set winner, collecting a 6-0, 6-0 result at fourth singles.
