Manchester, N.H. - On Sunday, the Adelphi University women's soccer team came out on the short end of a 1-0 loss to No. 17 Southern New Hampshire University in its 2021 NE10 opener at Penmen Stadium.
When the two teams last met in 2019, the Panthers (0-1-1, 0-1 NE10) upset the then-No. 8 ranked Penmen (3-0, 1-0 NE10) by a 4-0 final.
The game saw a plethora of chances, with Adelphi and SNHU combining for 28 shots. However, the hosts registered 13 shots on goal to the visitors' three.
SNHU made the only one count in the 68th minute, when an Allyson Patterson touch in the box trickled underneath
Sarah Hofmeier.
Lauren Haggerty and
Madison Raposo each had an opportunity to get Adelphi on the board in the first half, but were denied by SNHU goalkeeper Zoe Kaplan.
Minutes after Patterson's tie-breaking goal,
Lola Kochanskyj nearly tied it, only to have her attempt turned away by Kaplan.
Once again,
Krista Aliscio and
Sarah Hofmeier split time in goal. This time, Aliscio made the start and recorded five saves. Hofmeier had seven stops.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers next play two home games this week, starting with a 7 p.m. date at Motamed Field on Wednesday (Sept. 15) against NE10 rival Southern Connecticut State University.
