Manchester, N.H. - The Adelphi University softball team will play on another day at the NCAA East Regional, after winning an elimination game against University of New Haven, 5-1, at Saint Anselm's South Athletic Field on Thursday.

Game 1: Adelphi 1, Saint Anselm 11 - F/5
Hannah Pineda was Adelphi's top offensive contributor with a 2-for-2 performance, backed by home run and a bloop single to right center. Pineda now has three homers on the season -- two of which have come this week at the NCAA East Region Tournament.

Saint Anselm's Bre Klaiber also put one over the fence that was good for three runs in the first inning. The Hawks added three more runs after Klaiber's roundtripper to take an early 6-1 lead over the Panthers.

Adelphi was outhit 10-3 by Saint Anselm, which put up a combined five runs off six hits in the third and fourth to end the game after five innings, 11-1.

Ally Muller, Claire Fon and Nicole Mengel all saw time in the circle, and Muller (17-4) took the loss.

Game 2: Adelphi 5, New Haven 1
Emily Whitman helped the Panthers to a quick start with a leadoff single that she turned into a run scored, after stealing home on a throw down to second. Whitman went 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk and two runs scored.

Adelphi plated a pair in the second, courtesy of RBI singles from Amanda Owens and Lauren O'Neill. Sophia Cicchetti also had two RBI in the fourth frame.

New Haven's lone run was a result of a home run off the bat of Nahtali Simpon in the bottom of the sixth. The Chargers put three runners on in the last two innings, but were not able to score any.

Lindsey Hibbs started the first 5.2 innings and let up just one run and three hits, with a season-best eight strikeouts. Fon cleaned up the final 1.1 innings.

The Panthers are back in action tomorrow (May 21) at 1:30 p.m. against Bridgeport in another elimination contest.
