#9 Women's Lax Commands 18-3 Victory at Saint Rose

Albany, N.Y. - The Adelphi women's lacrosse team found its groove on Wednesday afternoon after starting the season 0-2, capturing an 18-3 victory over the College of Saint Rose at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

Christina Ferrara led all players with six points, accounting for four goals and two assists. Kole Pollock matched Ferrara's goal output and added one ground ball and three draw controls in the victory. In total, nine different Panthers scored in the win, including collegiate firsts for Kelly-Ann McGrath and Jamie Mecca

Gianna Bifuclo got things going for Adelphi (1-2) nearly 30 seconds into the contest, but the Golden Knights (0-5) used a tally from Daria Bock to even the score at 1-1. The visitors rattled off the next six goals, bookended with scores from Pollock and Ferrara to lead 7-1 at the half.

A caused turnover courtesy of Mecca gave the Panthers the ball in the early going of the second frame, which allowed Pollock to find a way past Dorothy Gaffney in a man-down situation to continue the scoring spree for the visiting team. Ferrara's hat trick goal sent the contest to running time at 11-1, but the offense continued to find opportunities to find the back of the cage. Kristina Schweitzer grabbed a rebounded shot to score her first goal of the season, and was quickly followed by Kaylee Lamonica to make it a 12-goal advantage with under 20 minutes still left to play.

Just under 15 minutes from regulation, Adelphi made a change in goal, swapping Emma Lemanski for Emily Perry, who played the remainder of the contest. The former finished her time in net with two saves, allowing just one goal by Saint Rose.

The home team managed two more goals in the half but Ferrara tacked on one more and McGrath closed the contest with her first collegiate tally with 28 seconds left on the clock.

Adelphi held the upper hand in nearly every category, including a 16-6 stance in draw controls for the game.

The women's program returns to action on Saturday, April 10 as they trip to American International for a noon contest.
