Softball Continues Strong Play With Sweep of AIC; 1-0, 8-2

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team added two more games to its win streak Wednesday, after sweeping American International College, 1-0 and 8-2, in an NE10 doubleheader at Janet L. Ficke Field.

Game 1: Adelphi 1, AIC 0
Ally Muller returned to the circle for another win after claiming a pair against New Haven on Monday. She continued to hold her opponent scoreless, with six strikeouts and only allowing three hits on the game. Muller moved to 7-2 on the season.

Muller worked her way out of a two-on, none-out jam in the first inning and proceeded to retire the next 12 batters she faced in order. After that initial inning, Muller only surrendered one hit the rest of the way.

Amanda Owens drove the ball into the gap in right center to lead off the third inning for the Panthers. With Owens and Whitman on base, Lauren O'Neill laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved both runners into scoring position. Daniella Roselli knocked in the only run of the game on an infield groundout to short.

Adelphi tallied seven hits in the opener. Whitman provided a 2-for-3 showing out of the leadoff spot, while Owens was a perfect 2-for-2 with a run scored.

Game 2: Adelphi 8, AIC 2
The Panthers built an early lead, batting through the lineup during their first appearance at the plate and sending three runners home in the process.

Hannah Pineda bounced one off the centerfield fence to push Camilleri across two innings later. The Panthers led 4-0 after three innings of play.

AIC lit up the board for the first time in the fourth after a Kacie Allison double scored Olivia Ortega, who doubled herself to start the inning.

Adelphi responded with two more in its half of the fourth and another in the fifth and sixth to break it open. Pineda hit her first home run of the season over the centerfield fence in the effort, to boost her team to a 7-1 lead.

Nicole Mengel got the start and claimed her third win of the season. She scattered just two runs and six hits.

Head Coach Carla Campagna and the Panthers return to action next Tuesday (Apr. 13), when they travel to New Haven, Conn. for a re-match with Southern Connecticut State University at 2:30 p.m.
