New Haven, Conn. - The Adelphi University softball team traveled to Southern Connecticut for a conference match-up Tuesday afternoon, in which the Panthers split with the Owls, 1-0 and 8-4.
Game 1: Adelphi 1, SCSU 0
Ally Muller won the game from inside the circle, setting a new career-high with 13 strikeouts in a single game, beating her previous record of 12 from 2019. This game marked the fifth-consecutive shutout for Muller, who only gave up one hit during the victory. The pitcher stretched her win streak to six, advancing to 8-2 on the season.
The game remained scoreless until the seventh inning, due in part to
Faith Camilleri, who blasted a lead-off triple. One batter later, with Camilleri in scoring position,
Sophia Cicchetti poked a RBI sacrifice fly to left field that brought Camilleri home. The Owls were retired in order during the next frame, ending the contest.
Adelphi out-hit Southern Connecticut in the contest, 5-1, with one double and two triples.
Game 2: Adelphi 4, SCSU 8
The home team took Game 2 from the Panthers after a statement five-run first inning. SCSU took advantage of an early field error made by Adelphi's defense, with every run pushed across deemed unearned.
Southern Connecticut added three more runs over the next three innings to extend its lead to 8-0, before Adelphi got on the board.
Jaden Farhat,
Lauren O'Neill and
Daniella Roselli had one hit apiece during Adelphi's three-hit fifth inning, en route to scoring three runs to trail by five.
Roselli singled again in the seventh to score Whitman, who reached on a walk. The Brown and Gold left six runners stranded in the game, three of which were in scoring position.
Head Coach
Carla Campagna and her team return home this weekend (Apr. 17-18) for an NE10 series against Le Moyne College, with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
