Game Recap: Softball |

Muller Pushes Panthers Past New Haven; 10-0, 5-0

Garden City, N.Y. - On Monday, the Adelphi University softball bounced back from a Saturday split with New Haven, sweeping day two of the conference series, 10-0 and 5-0.

Game 1: Adelphi 10, New Haven 0 - F/5
Adelphi wasted no time pushing runs across the plate, taking a quick 4-0 lead after the first inning. Faith Camilleri and Angela Lignelli were each responsible for driving in a pair of runs, to start things off for the home team.

The New Haven offense was held quiet through the first two innings after being retired in order. Ellie Frederick tried to get things going for the Chargers with a double to left field, but a pop up and strikeout concluded the inning. In the bottom half of the third, Adelphi managed to send in six more runs, the first two, courtesy of a Lauren O'Neill single up the middle.

Daniella Roselli launched a ball into the trees over the left field fence, plating both her and O'Neill just to be followed by a Sophia Cicchetti homer to bring in two more runs and lead 10-0. The Chargers stranded one runner on base over the following two innings, unable to get anything going from an offensive standpoint.

Ally Muller threw a two-hitter through five innings, not allowing a hit until the top of the third frame. She finished the contest with 10 strikeouts, two off her career-high of 12.

Game 2: Adelphi 5, New Haven 0
Ally Muller returned to the mound to throw her second shutout of the afternoon for the Panthers. This was the first time that a pitcher has claimed both wins of a doubleheader since Jessica Vadala did at Bentley University back on April 8, 2017. Muller only allowed two more hits in the nightcap, and struck out nine additional batters.

Once again, Adelphi secured an early lead. Emily Whitman got the Panther bats going with a lead-off double to center. Roselli, Cicchetti and Lignelli each followed with one RBI in the first to put the home team up 3-0 after one inning of play.

The Chargers tried to push its first run across the plate on a tag up off Ava Fitzmaurice's fly out to right field in the sixth, but Kendall Winn threw the runner out at the plate to hold New Haven scoreless.

The Panthers combined for nine hits in the game, putting runners on base in every inning but the fourth. Seniors O'Neill and Hannah Pineda each added one RBI, pushing the total for the game to five.

The Panthers are back in action on Wednesday, April 7 when they host American International College in doubleheader action. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Janet L. Ficke Field.  Fans will not be permitted and are encouraged to tune in on NE10NOW.tv
