West Haven, Conn. - Behind a pair of homers and six brilliant innings from
Tommy O'Sullivan, the Adelphi University baseball team responded off a pair of losses from the weekend with a 7-4 win at University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference action Monday at Frank Vieira Field.
The Panthers (5-7, 3-2 NE10) jumped out to the early lead, after
Tim Feliz slugged his second homer of the season -- a two-run shot to right in the first -- to help put Adelphi up 3-0 after the team's first turn at-bat.
Aside from allowing a two-out RBI single in the third, O'Sullivan retired 16 of the first 20 batters to face him. His final inning of work concluded with a lineout double play to
Tyler Becker.
While O'Sullivan was masterful on the hill, the Adelphi offense went to work and handed their pitcher a 6-1 cushion after three-and-a-half innings of play.
In the top of the fourth, an
Anthony Cipri walk and
Nick Gavilla single set the table for a
Cooper Johnson three-run homer that broke the game open.
The Panthers did tack on another run in the eighth on a
Matt Alifano RBI single, which -- at the time -- extended the Adelphi lead to 7-2.
O'Sullivan didn't allow a walk and struck out three in his first start since Mar. 14 and third appearance of the season.
Michael Storms finished the final 2.2 innings and fanned four.
Head Coach
Dom Scala and the Panthers will look to draw the season series even in the finale on Wednesday (Apr. 7) at 3:30 p.m. in West Haven.
