Syracuse, N.Y. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University baseball team returned from a 10-day break with a split of the first two games of a four-game weekend series at Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference action at Dick Rockwell Field.
Game 1: Adelphi 7, Le Moyne 4
Cooper Johnson delivered the opening blow and it was all Adelphi from that point on.
The Panthers loaded the bases with three consecutive singles to open the second inning, before Johnson got into a 2-1 pitch that cleared the right-field fence for a grand slam.
Adelphi sent 11 batters to the dish and ultimately plated six runs to jump out to a 6-0 lead.
Tyler Becker scored in the frame when
Brandon Warick was hit by a pitch, while
Jack Ryan was awarded home plate on a balk.
After working out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning,
Nicolas Luc pitched four subsequent clean innings and gave way to the bullpen.
Although the Dolphins closed the gap to 7-4 in the seventh,
Michael Storms inherited a bases-loaded jam, but managed to lock down his second save of 2021.
Game 2: Adelphi 1, Le Moyne 6
Josh Rovner made the start for Adelphi in the nightcap and pitched a scoreless first, but Le Moyne broke through against the righty with three runs in the second.
The Panthers eventually fell into a 5-0 hole and struggled to muster much offense against Dolphins'Â starter Andrew Roden.
In the fifth, Adelphi put runners on first and third with one out and scratched a run across on a
Michael Draskin sacrifice fly. That proved to be the visitors' only run of the game.
Roden tossed six innings of one-run ball for Le Moyne and Ryan DuBord cleaned it up in the seventh. Rovner lasted 2.1 innings and struck out three.
Adelphi wraps up its series with Le Moyne on Sunday (Apr. 18) with another doubleheader, slated for a noon start.
