Albany, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team secured another Northeast-10 Conference series sweep against Saint Rose on Wednesday, 6-0 and 5-3.
Game 1: Adelphi 6, Saint Rose 0
Lauren O'Neill provided an offensive spark for Adelphi in the first game of the afternoon. O'Neill reached on a fielder's choice before
Sophia Cicchetti sent her home on a sacrifice fly. The Panthers took a 1-0 lead that remained untouched over the next inning.
O'Neill laid down a sacrifice bunt that advanced Whitman and Owens who both scored by the end of the Panthers third frame at the plate.
After a
Kendall Winn double and
Ashley Lombardi RBI single, Adelphi entered the fifth inning up, 4-0.
Faith Camilleri stepped up to the plate and sealed the deal for the Brown and Gold with a two run homer.
Ally Muller advanced to 13-2 after a 10-strikeout and three-hit performance in the circle that pushed her team past the Golden Knights in the opener.
Game 2: Adelphi 5, Saint Rose 3
Saint Rose scored its first run of the day courtesy of a lead-off double from Ciana Phillips that turned into a run scored three batters later. Phillips had two RBI in the game, playing part in all three runs for the Golden Knights.
Camilleri continued her strong offensive play in game two, ripping an RBI double, to plate the first run for Adelphi. She went 2-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored for the afternoon.
The Panthers had a four-run fourth inning, capitalizing on errors made by the Saint Rose defense. Roselli got the inning started with a walk, Cicchetti and Camilleri reached on errors, and Lombardi stepped up to clear the bases with a double. Lombardi scored off an
Amanda Owens single, and the Panthers quickly found themselves with five runs on the board.
Claire Fon stepped up in the seventh inning to record her second save of the season, striking out the last two batters of the game to protect Adelphi's 5-3 lead when she entered.
Nicole Mengel claimed the win from inside circle during Game 2, and advances to 5-3 on the season.
The team is back at Janet L. Ficke Field on Friday, April 30 when they host American International for their regular season series finale. Prior to first pitch, the department will honor the graduating class from the softball team.
