West Haven, Conn. - The Adelphi University women's lacrosse program avenged their earlier loss to the University of New Haven on Saturday afternoon, using scoring from seven different players to secure an 18-6 victory at Zolad Stadium.
Kole Pollock led the way for the Panthers (5-3, 5-3 NE10), with five goals as
Christina McCabe and
Kerrin Heuser each added a hat trick in the win.
Emma Lemanski and
Emily Perry shared time in goal, each allowing three tallies from the home team, but combining for eight saves.
It was an all-Adelphi first half as the the Panthers managed to reach running time after 30 minutes of action with a 13-2 lead over New Haven (5-6, 5-5 NE10). Six different players, including
Gianna Bifulco and
Tamia Lawson managed to find the back of the net before the Chargers got on the board at 12:25. The visiting team used a 5-1 stretch to close out the half, bookended with tallies from Ferrara and Heuser. The teams were evenly matched in the draw control department in the first 30 minutes of action, with Adelphi using an 8-7 edge in the stat line.
McCabe picked up where the Panthers left off, scoring less than two minutes into the second frame. Pollock and Bifulco each converted a free position attempt to make it 16-3, Adelphi, as the clock continued to run. The Chargers made a late push on offense in the closing 11 minutes of play, but the deficit was too great to overcome.
New Haven held the upper hand in draw controls in the second half but was unable to string anything together after four stops in goal from the Lemanski/Perry duo.
Adelphi will close out the regular season on Wednesday, April 28 when they host the College of Saint Rose at 6:00 p.m. Prior to game action, the department will honor the graduating class of 2021.
