Softball Sweeps Saint Rose; 3-0, 9-1

Albany, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team swept Saint Rose on Day 1 of the two-day conference series on Saturday; 3-0 and 9-1.

Game 1: Adelphi 3, Saint Rose 0
Ally Muller once again led the way for the Panthers. She was perfect through six frames, before giving up the lone hit. The senior struck out eight batters on the complete game to move to 12-2 on the season with 10 shutouts -- the last nine of which have come in as many appearances.

Saint Rose's only hit was a leadoff single in the seventh. The runner would be left stranded as the next three Golden Knigths were retired in order.

Daniella Roselli and Lauren O'Neill were the driving forces behind Adelphi's offense, accounting for all three of the runs scored.

Roselli sent one over the left-field fence in the fourth to put the first run on the board. Two innings later, she poked a sacrifice fly to left field that scored O'Neill, who tripled one batter earlier to drive in Emily Whitman.

Game 2: Adelphi 9, Saint Rose 1
Saint Rose pushed the first runner across the plate for Game 2 on a first-inning RBI single up the middle that scored Ciana Phillips, who reached after being hit by a pitch.

Faith Camilleri sealed the deal for the Panthers, blasting a seventh-inning homer to left that also plated Roselli, extending the lead to 9-1. Camilleri went 3-for-4 on the game, and 5-for-7 on the day.

Sophia Cicchetti scored the first run for Adelphi in the third, and went on to drive a two-RBI double center the next inning. Cicchetti had two hits, two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Nicole Mengel claimed the win from inside the circle after throwing a complete game. The senior is now 4-3 on the season.

The Panthers will travel back to Albany on Wednesday (Apr. 28) for Day 2 of the NE10 series against Saint Rose. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
