Garden City, N.Y. - Closing out the regular season on a high-note, the Adelphi University men's lacrosse program held Assumption College scoreless in the third quarter en route to a 15-6 victory on Senior Day.
Ten different players found the back of the cage on Saturday afternoon for the Panthers (6-2, 6-1 NE10), and were led by fifth-year
Nicolas Racalbuto who recorded a hat trick in the win.
Ryan Erler picked up the win in goal after 30 minutes of action and four saves.
Racalbuto got things going on offense for Adelphi nearly three minutes into the contest after connecting with
John Arcidiacono.
Joseph Duchnowski wanted in on the action and added his twelfth goal of the season almost six minutes later, despite shots on both ends of the field and several miscues by both teams. It took Assumption (1-6, 1-6 NE10) three attempts at the goal before the fourth went in, cutting the home team lead to one.
After the first half, Adelphi only held a narrow two-goal advantage over the Greyhounds, who added three goals to the Panthers four in the second frame.
James Hall sent a pass into Racalbuto to get things started in the third quarter, which resulted in a 7-0 stretch for Adelphi to take a commanding 13-4 lead.
Angelo Caiazzo,
Quentin O'Reilly, and Bryan Harinski all heard their names over the loud speaker after finding ways past Colin Malone in goal for Assumption, who finished the contest with 13 saves.
Scoring his first of the season and in fitting fashion,
Jack Roberts extended the Panthers lead to double-digits to start the final 15 minutes of action. Back-to-back tallies from the Greyhounds came late in the fourth, but
Eamon Hall got in the final word for Adelphi to seal the deal for the hosts.
Defensively, the Panthers were led by LSM
Sean McGovern who wreaked havoc in Assumption's offensive end, causing four turnovers and scooping seven ground balls.
Edward Perlstein put in a productive day at the faceoff X, finish 13-for-19 with seven ground balls as well.
Adelphi earns a first round bye in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament which is slated to begin on Wednesday, April 28.
