New Haven, Conn. - With the help of twelve different players from the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team recording at least one point on Wednesday evening, the team secured a 22-8 victory over Southern Connecticut State University in their home stadium, Jess Dow Field.
Led by
Alison Johnson and
Christina McCabe, who registered seven and six points, respectively, four players chipped in three or more goals a piece, in the offensive performance. On the other side of the ball,
Kerry Ann Flavin led the team with four ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers in the win.
Kole Pollock scored the first two goals of the game after just two minutes in, and was followed by back-to-back goals from
Kristina Kallansrude to take a 4-0 lead over the Owls (2-3, 2-3 NE10). The home team broke their silence at 20:56, and scored three straight to come within three, just over two minutes later. McCabe sparked an 8-1 run over the remainder of the opening frame to hold a 10-goal lead over the hosts.
Contributions from Johnson,
Kerrin Heuser,
Christina Ferrara and
Fiona Rafferty allowed the visiting team to push the clock to running time, before the first half ended, a status they wouldn't lose for the rest of the game. Despite an advantage in the score, the Owls held an 11-9 edge over the Panthers (4-3, 4-3 NE10) in draw controls in the opening half.
Capped with a goal from
Kelly-Ann McGrath - off a pass from
Molly Fetherston - Adelphi rattled off seven consecutive goals to start the second frame, which with running time, brought them to the 7:46 mark. The home team recorded the final three goals of the contest over the ensuing five minutes, but the deficit was too great to overcome.
Adelphi women's lacrosse play their final regular season road game on Saturday, April 24 when they return to Connecticut to take on the University of New Haven at 1:00 p.m.
