Easton, Mass. - As the team prepares for postseason play, the Adelphi University men's tennis team concluded the 2021 regular season Tuesday with a 6-1 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts in Easton.
With the NE10 Tournament looming, the Panthers wrapped up the regular season at 5-3 in NE10 play. It will be Adelphi's first NE10 Tournament appearance since 2017.
The Panthers appear headed for a home quarterfinal match-up with Bentley on Saturday (Apr. 24). On Apr. 6, Adelphi squeezed out a 4-3 decision in its regular-season meeting with the Falcons.
In Tuesday's match, Adelphi rallied from an 0-1 doubles deficit to grab the team point. After a 6-0 loss at the No. 2 flight, the top- and third-doubles tandems of
Gabriel Balestero and
Pietro Sole and
Salomon Arce Lema and
Henrique Souza, respectively, won by identical 6-2 decisions.
Then, in singles, the Panthers nearly made it a clean sweep.
Balestero, Lema, Souza and
Luke Attride-Stirling all prevailed in straight sets in their matches.
Pietro Sole, who is a perfect 3-0 in tiebreakers this season, fought back from a set down to win 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-5 at No. 2 singles.
The bracket for the 2021 NE10 Men's Tennis Championship is set to be announced Thursday night (Apr. 22) at 8 p.m. More information about Saturday's NE10 quarterfinal will be announced as it becomes available.
