Oceanside, N.Y. - On Monday, the Adelphi University women's tennis team said farewell to its graduating seniors and closed out the home portion of its Spring 2021 regular-season schedule with a 4-3 win over NE10 rival University of New Haven at Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside.
Before the match began, the team lined up for what was an emotional pre-game celebration for its two graduating seniors --
Nicole Stay and
Nicole Kielan.
In its narrowest margin of victory this season, Adelphi (8-1, 8-1 NE10) still extended its winning streak to seven consecutive matches.
In singles, the bottom half of the lineup put a lid on the contest -- all winning in straight sets.
Julia Kielan put the Panthers ahead with a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 5 singles. Stay padded the lead with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3.
Amanda Franstedt provided the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-0 win at the No. 4 flight.
Adelphi picked up another clean sweep in doubles, as well.
Nicole Kielan and
Barbie Quagliardi won 6-2 at top pairs, while Franstedt and Stay prevailed 6-3 in their second-doubles match.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers meet New Haven again this Thursday (Apr. 22) in West Haven, Conn. to close out the Spring 2021 regular season. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
