Syracuse, N.Y. - On Sunday, the Adelphi University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Le Moyne College, 5-4 and 16-7, in Northeast-10 Conference action at Dick Rockwell Field.
As a result, the Panthers fell to 6-10 and 4-5 against NE10 opposition, while the Dolphins improved to 8-2 in conference play.
Game 1: Adelphi 4, Le Moyne 5
In the seven-inning opener, Le Moyne jumped out to a 3-0 lead and one-hit Adelphi over the first four innings.
That changed in the fifth, after a fielding error set the stage for a big inning for the Panthers.
Adelphi loaded the bases with one out and drove in its first run on a
Brandon Warick sacrifice fly, before
Michael Draskin delivered the game-tying double into the right-center field gap.
One inning later, the Panthers threatened again with a runner in scoring position and
Matt Alifano roped a double down the right-field line to give the visitors the lead.
The bullpen was unable to hold it though. Le Moyne strung together back-to-back singles to open the sixth against Adelphi reliever
Kevin Glasser, who was then replaced by
Andrew Williams.
Williams' first batter bunted the runners over to second and third for the team's No. 8 hitter Drew Fureno, who singled to right to score the game-tying run.
On the next offering, Williams' pitch got away from
Jack Ryan and allowed the go-ahead and eventual deciding run to come across from third.
In Adelphi's final turn at-bat, Draskin reached on a one-out single to put the tying run on base, but
Tim Feliz flied out and
Tyler Becker grounded out to end the game, ultimately stranding the tying run at first.
Game 2: Adelphi 7, Le Moyne 16
The nine-inning nightcap saw an offensive explosion, with a combined 23 runs scored between the two teams.
More specifically, Le Moyne plated two runs in the first and tacked on eight more in the fourth to jump out to a 10-0 lead.
In the seventh, Feliz capped off the frame with his team-leading third homer of the season -- a two-run roundtripper to right -- that closed the gap to 10-4.
Alex Rende and
Anthony Foti both knocked in their first collegiate RBI in the ninth, but it was too late by then.
Troy Simpson took the bump in Game 2 and scattered seven hits and six runs (four earned) across 3.1 innings.
Bobby Molinaro struck out three in 1.1 innings of work.
The Panthers will be back in action next weekend (Apr. 24-25), when they start another four-game weekend series -- this time -- against The College of Saint Rose at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field in Garden City. First pitch on both days is set for noon.
