Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team won-out day one of the two-day Northeast-10 Conference series against divisional foe Le Moyne College on Saturday, with decisions of 1-0 and 3-2.Â
Game 1: Adelphi 1, Le Moyne 0
Ally Muller claimed her seventh consecutive win from inside the circle with 10 strikeouts, also marking her sixth shutout in a row.Â
The Panthers had four runners in scoring position over the course of the game, but were only able to plate one.Â
Kendall Winn poked a fourth-inning sacrifice fly to right field that scored
Sophia Cicchetti who reached on a bunt two batters earlier.
The Dolphins had a chance to send one home in the sixth, but Muller came through big for the Panthers, retiring back-to-back batters with a runner on third and one out on the board.Â
Game 2: Adelphi 3, Le Moyne 2
Le Moyne put five runners on in the first, scoring a pair of runs early, off two infield ground balls that forced Adelphi to attempt a play at the plate. Adelphi played from behind for the rest of the contest.
Winn sent one down the left field line to start the bottom of the third and later tagged up on
Emily Whitman's sacrifice fly to right field to bring the game within one.Â
Trailing by one in the last frame, Cicchetti drilled a lead-off line drive into the left field gap to put herself in scoring position.
Faith Camilleri followed Cicchetti with a line drive over the head of the second baseman to advance the runner.
Hannah Pineda blasted a walk-off double to deep center field that scored both Cicchetti and Camilleri to win the game.Â
Ally Muller continued to show her strength from inside the circle in her second outing of the doubleheader, throwing four innings of scoreless softball. The senior gave up one hit and tossed five strike outs to record the win for the Panthers. Muller advances to 10-2 on the season.Â
The Panthers return to action tomorrow for day two of the NE10 series against Le Moyne, with the first pitched slated for 12 p.m.
