Oceanside, N.Y. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University men's tennis team celebrated its graduating seniors with a 6-1 victory over Saint Michael's College in its 2021 regular-season home finale at the Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside.
Although the Panthers (4-3, 4-3 NE10)Â lost at the No. 1 flight, the doubles point had already been awarded.
The third-doubles tandem of
Henrique Souza and
David Leader finished first in shutout fashion (6-0), followed by
Luke Attride-Stirling and
Andrew Ray's 6-3 win at the No. 2 flight that secured the doubles point for Adelphi.
Half of the singles matches went the full three sets.
Gabriel Balestero and
Luke Attride-Stirling -- both of whom were honored pre-game in a Senior Day ceremony with Leader -- won the first set at their respective flights and ultimately prevailed.
Balestero won 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4 in top singles, while Attride-Stirling appeared at No. 2 singles for the first time since 2020 and came away with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 victory.
Souza picked up a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set result in fourth singles. Leader and Ray won by identical 6-1, 6-0 decisions at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
