Garden City, N.Y. - A career afternoon between the pipes for Adelphi goalkeeper
Ryan Erler propelled the no. 6 Panthers to a 14-9 win over Pace University Saturday afternoon at a sunny Motamed Field.
This marked the third meeting for the teams this season, with Adelphi (5-2, 5-1 NE10) coming out victorious on all occasions.
Ten different players found the back of the net for the Panthers and 13 earned at least a point in the victory, including a team-leading three goals from
Nicolas Racalbuto.
Joseph Duchnowski and
James Hall both chipped in three helpers apiece as Erler finished with a career-mark of 15 saves. At the X,
Edward Perlstein put in another exceptional effort, going 15-26 with 10 ground balls.
Racalbuto and
Gordon Purdie, Jr. both took advantage of man-up possessions in the opening quarter but the Setters (3-6, 3-5 NE10) managed to sneak one more goal in before time expired to leave the game locked at three. Adelphi (5-2, 5-1 NE10) exploded in the second frame however, outscoring its opponent 7-3 to hold a 10-6 advantage at the half. Seven different players scored goals for the Panthers in a 15 minute-stretch, book ended with tallies from
Angelo Caiazzo and
John Arcidiacono. Brian Hariniski got involved to score his first collegiate goal off a pass from
Quentin O'Reilly.
Coming out of the break, it was a pass from
Joseph Duchnowski to
Justin Napolitano after Pace managed six shots down at the other end, two of which were picked up by Erler as the others fell off the mark. The long poles wanted in on the action so after a Setter miscue,
Lawrence Galizia forced a pass to
Sean McGovern who buried a shot with less than a minute to play, doubling their opponent's score, 14-7.
It was a quiet final quarter for the hosts who didn't manage a goal in 15 minutes, despite several opportunities at Louis Ragusa. Pace found a way by Erler two times, but the keeper kept his cool, stopping four other shots that came his way.
Head Coach
Gordon Purdie and the Adelphi men's lacrosse program will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 24 when they host Assumption College. Opening faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
