Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#11 Women's Lacrosse Bests #19 Pace, 15-11

Garden City, N.Y. - The no. 11 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team used a nine-goal first half to hold on to a 15-11 win over no. 19 Pace University Wednesday afternoon in a rainy top-20 matchup.

Christina McCabe led all players with seven points behind four goals and three assists as teammate Kole Pollock also recorded a hat trick in the win. Six additional players found the back of the net including Alison Johnson who recorded four points on one assist and three tallies. At the draw, Kerry Ann Flavin finished with nearly half of Adelphi's total for the contest with eight, as the Panthers commanded a 17-10 advantage in draw control wins in the victory.

The home team wasted no time scoring as Alison Johnson recorded her first point of the season on an unassisted strike past Pace's Sienna Masullo nearly two minutes into the game. McCabe connected with Tamia Lawson for the second goal and proceeded to add her own tally with no help at the 21:01 mark to take a 3-0 lead over the Setters.

Emma Rafferty of Pace broke the silence for the visitors, but Gianna Bifulco sparked a 3-0 run for the Panthers to extend the host lead to five. Another three-goal stretch gave Adelphi a 9-2 lead with under 10 minutes to play in the opening half. Alyssa Gillespie, who was all over the draw circle, finishing with five, scored her third of the season to make it a six goal game at 12:16, but the visiting team gained momentum down the stretch to score the last three of the first frame. Kayla Conway who finished with a hat trick in the loss for the Setters scored back-to-back goals within a minute of each other.

Kristina Kallansrude kick-started the offense for Adelphi to open the second half, scoring two within 16 seconds of each other. She took advantage of a fast break situation in which Johnson sent in a feed and buried a shot to make it 11-5. The Setters scored three unanswered in response to the three-goal stretch from the home team, but a pair of tallies from Pollock kept the opposition at bay.

Goals from Conway and Aleya Corretjer brought the visiting team within three,  but a final strike form McCabe at 3:48 all but sealed the deal for the Panthers, despite several shots off the mark for Pace in the final minutes of action.

The Cats are back on their home turf this Saturday, April 17 when they welcome Le Moyne College for a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
