Waltham, Mass. - In what was a romp, the Adelphi University women's tennis team subdued Bentley University on the road, 6-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown on Wednesday afternoon.
The win extended Adelphi's winning streak to six matches and improved the Panthers to 7-1 in NE10 play.
As a result, Adelphi is now tied with Le Moyne for second place in the conference standings and only trails Franklin Pierce by a half game for the lead.
Aside from the default at No. 6 singles, the Panthers surrendered no more than two games in a set in singles or doubles to the Falcons (2-6, 2-5 NE10).
In doubles, the respective No. 1 and No. 2 tandems of
Barbie Quagliardi and
Nicole Kielan and
Amanda Franstedt and
Nicole Stay both won by identical 6-1 decisions. Adelphi still remains without a doubles loss on the season.
Meanwhile, in singles, the Panthers made it a clean sweep -- winning all five matches in straight sets.
Kielan came away with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the top flight. Quagliardi, Stay and Franstedt all won by 6-0, 6-1 decisions in their tilts.
Julia Kielan outlasted her opponent, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 5 slot.

Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad will now close the regular season with a home-and-home series against University of New Haven. The two teams will meet first on Monday (Apr. 19) at 2 p.m. at the Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside, N.Y.
