Syracuse, N.Y. - On Tuesday, the Adelphi University men's tennis team put up a tough fight, but lost 7-0 to Le Moyne College in their third meeting of the 2021 campaign, at Nottingham High School in Syracuse.
The loss snapped a short two-match win streak for the Panthers, who now sit at an even 3-3 record in NE10 play.
While the doubles point already had been decided,
Gabriel Balestero and
Valentin Le Goupil-Maier knocked off Le Moyne's top-doubles tandem -- Philip Blythe and Tom Jarry -- by a 6-4 final.
Balestero and Le Goupil-Maier didn't have the same luck in singles though.
Balestero fell in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) in top singles, while Le Goupil-Maier retired at 0-3 in the second set, after dropping the opening set, 6-1.
Pietro Sole forced a decisive set with a 7-6 (7-3) second-set tiebreaker, but fell 10-2 in the third at No. 2 singles.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad return to action Saturday (Apr. 17), when they host Saint Michael's College in an NE10 showdown at 3 p.m. at the Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside. The Panthers won their first meeting against the Purple Knights, 7-0, on Mar. 27 in Colchester, Vt.
