Oceanside, N.Y. - For the second time in two weeks, the Adelphi University men's tennis team hung tough with Le Moyne College, ultimately dropping a 5-2 decision to the Dolphins, at the Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside.
Although
Luke Attride-Stirling and
Henrique Souza led 5-3 at the No. 3 flight, the Panthers (1-2, 1-2 NE10) lost the doubles point, after falling at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Gabriel Balestero pulled the match even for Adelphi with his second win in a row at top singles -- a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) straight-set decision over Le Moyne's Philip Blythe.
The Panthers were unable to hold the Dolphins down though, as Le Moyne (2-0, 2-0 NE10) won the next four singles matches to pull out the match.
Attride-Stirling took the first set (7-5) at No. 4 singles, but a disheartening 7-6 (7-4) loss in a tiebreaker in the second set gave way to a 6-0 defeat in the third.
Salomon Arce Lema, the NE10 Rookie of the Week, accounted for the other Adelphi win on the day with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Felipe Cruz at fifth singles.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers are back at it Saturday (Apr. 3), when they host Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown at 2 p.m. at the Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside.
