Colchester, Vt. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University men's tennis team cruised to its first win of the 2021 season, defeating Saint Michael's College, 7-0, in Northeast-10 Conference action in Colchester.
The Panthers (1-1, 1-1 NE10) comfortably earned the doubles point first.
Adelphi lost only a combined three games in the three matches.
Gabriel Balestero and
Valentin Le Goupil-Maier won 6-2 at the top flight.
Pietro Sole and
Salomon Arce Lema handled their opposition, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles.
Luke Attride-Stirling and
Andrew Ray prevailed flawlessly in third doubles, 6-0.
That set the tone for the singles matches that followed.
While all six results favored the Panthers, five of them came in straight sets.
Attride-Stirling, Lema and
Henrique Souza all won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Le Goupil-Maier battled to a 6-4, 6-3 victory in third singles. Sole won his first set in a tiebreaker (7-6 (7-2)) at No. 2 singles, before pulling away 6-1 in the second set.
In top singles, Balestero lost the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-0), but rebounded to take the second set, 6-2, and eventually the match via a 10-4 result in the decisive third set.

Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad now make the trip home and will host Le Moyne in a re-match of their season opener on Tuesday (Mar. 30) at 2 p.m. at Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside, N.Y.
