Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Drops Two at Molloy; 2-1, 4-0

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - A comeback was not in the cards for the Adelphi University softball team on Tuesday. The Panthers dropped two games at Molloy College, 2-1 and 4-0.

Game 1: Adelphi 1, Molloy 2
Molloy entered the contest on a six-game win streak and it showed. The Lions took the lead right from the jump, pushing a pair across the plate during their first inning at bat. The first run of the day was scored on an error by the Panthers.

Angela Lignelli started Adelphi's fifth inning comeback attempt, reaching first on an infield single, before scoring on Molly Edge's RBI single.

The Panthers brought the tying run to the plate six times in the next two innings, but fell short.

Nicole Mengel made her first Game 1 start of the season. She gave up just the two first-inning run in four frames of work.

Game 2: Adelphi 0, Molloy 4
Now at 7-0 on the season, the Lions proved it with another strong offensive showing in the first inning of the nightcap, scoring four runs off of five hits.

Ally Muller only gave up one more hit after the opening inning and struck out six more batters.

Lignelli tried to start things back up in the fifth inning again, driving a double to left center, but she was left stranded at third.

Faith Camilleri led off the seventh with a single to right field. Two batters later, Lignelli was hit by a pitch. With two runners on and the tying run on deck, the Panthers were unable to even the score.

Adelphi is back in action this weekend (Mar. 27-28) with an NE10 series at Southern Connecticut State University. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. both days.
