Syracuse, N.Y. - In a re-match of last year's NE10 Tournament semifinal, the Adelphi University women's tennis team saw an early lead slip away in a 4-3 loss at Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday at Newington High School.
The Panthers jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead in the contest, after winning the doubles point and securing victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
In doubles,
Barbie Quagliardi and
Nicole Kielan won by a comfortable 6-2 margin at the No. 1 flight, while
Amanda Franstedt and
Nicole Stay earned a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position.
Then, in singles, Stay lost only three games in a 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 4 flight.
Julia Kielan also prevailed in straight sets (6-3, 6-3), in fifth singles.
However, Adelphi (1-1, 1-1 NE10) could not close it out.
Quagliardi and Franstedt both dropped their matches in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Nicole Kielan battled back from a set down, but lost the decisive third set, 6-2, that ultimately gave Le Moyne (2-0, 2-0 NE10) the victory.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers now return home to host American International College in an NE10 showdown on Wednesday (Mar. 24) at 2 p.m. in Garden City.
