DeWitt, N.Y. - On Tuesday, the Adelphi University men's tennis team made its return from the COVID-19 shutdown with a 7-0 loss to Le Moyne College in a Northeast-10 Conference match at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt.
Le Moyne (1-0, 1-0 NE10) was pegged as the second favorite to win the conference in the NE10's preseason rankings.
After dropping the doubles point, the Panthers (0-1, 0-1 NE10) battled to some tough singles decisions, but were unable to prevail.
At No. 1 singles,
Gabriel Balestero lost the first set 6-3, before losing 7-6 (7-5) in a tiebreaker in the second set.
Valentin Le Goupil-Maier came out on the short end of a tiebreaker in the second set at fourth singles, falling 6-3, 7-6 (10-8).
Salomon Arce Lema lost his collegiate debut at the No. 5 flight by a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 decision.
Henrique Souza suffered a tough 8-5 defeat in an eight-game pro set at No. 6 singles.

Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad return to action Saturday (Mar. 20), when they host NE10 foe Bentley University in their 2021 home opener at 2 p.m. at Point Set Indoor Racquet Club in Oceanside.
