Baseball Falls in Road Opener at Mercy, 12-3

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - In its first road test of the 2021 season, the Adelphi University baseball team fell to Mercy College, 12-3, in non-conference action at Mercy Field on Sunday in Dobbs Ferry.

The Panthers fell into an early 3-0 hole, but cut into that deficit with two runs in the third.

After earning a lead-off walk, Dillon Kim circled the bases on a pair of infield errors to put Adelphi (2-2) on the board. Two batters later, Matt Alifano drove in Cooper Johnson with a single up the middle.

Adelphi would only threaten once over the next four innings, while Mercy (2-0) re-stretched its lead and never looked back.

The Mavericks tacked on a pair in the fourth on the strength of back-to-back RBI singles and two more in the seventh, behind a two-run blast by Ryan Saltzman.

Alifano posted his fourth-consecutive multi-hit game. He went 2-for-4 and accounted for the team's only RBI of the contest.

Tommy O'Sullivan made the start for the Panthers and allowed two earned runs over 2.0 innings with two strikeouts. Kevin Glasser walked none and struck out three in 2.2 frames of relief.

Ryan Rozinski pitched seven innings of two-hit, two-run (none earned), two-walk, five-strikeout ball in his start for Mercy.

Head Coach Dom Scala and his Adelphi squad now return home to face Molloy College on Tuesday (Mar. 16) at 3:30 p.m. at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field in Garden City.
