Garden City, N.Y. -
Playing its first game in 370 days, the Adelphi University softball team secured a sweep against Felician University in its 2021 opener, 10-2 and 8-0, on Friday afternoon.
Game 1: Adelphi 10, Felician 2 - F/6
The Panthers scored in every inning but the fourth, with the first runs crossing the plate off a
Sophia Cicchetti two-run double to right center, which came with the bases loaded and two outs.
Adelphi tallied 16 runs and seven walks, putting runners on base in five of the six innings. Senior
Lauren O'Neill led the way for the Panthers offense with three hits, two runs and two RBIs.
The Brown and Gold held the Golden Falcons scoreless until the fifth inning, when Sam Melendez scored on a wild pitch by
Ally Muller. Vienna Chierchia then singled through the right side to knock in the last run for Felician through the remainder of the day.Â
Muller clinched her first win of the season in the circle, striking out seven batters.
Game 2: Adelphi 8, Felician 0 - F/5
Nicole Mengel shut out the Golden Falcons in Game Two - only allowing one hit through five innings in the circle.Â
The bats stayed alive for the home team, which put nine balls in play in a four-inning offensive onslaught.Â
The Brown and Gold started off the fourth inning with aÂ
Faith Camilleri triple to right field, followed by a
Hannah Pineda RBI double to center. Cicchetti reached base on an error by right fielder Chierchia, bringing Pineda home safely. Cicchetti would score on a passed ball to seal the deal for Adelphi.Â
