Syracuse, N.Y. - Despite overcoming a 16-point third-quarter deficit, the Adelphi University women's basketball team still lost a close 69-65 contest to Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday at Ted Grant Court.
Although the Panthers (2-4, 1-1 NE10) led for much of the first quarter, Adelphi trailed 47-31 early in the third.
A combined 13-point effort by
Emily Miccile and
Emma Cuccurullo then encompassed a 15-5 run that brought the visitors back within two possessions at 52-46.
The Panthers outscored the Dolphins (4-1, 2-1 NE10) by a 29-16 count over the first 13:31 of the second half.
It ultimately slung Adelphi in front 60-59 with 6:29 left in the fourth.
Ty'zhea Hawkins, who made her debut for the Brown and Gold, drilled the go-ahead three-pointer after a Le Moyne timeout.
While the two teams were deadlocked in the final minutes, the Dolphins limited the Panthers to a single made free throw in the final 3:23.
Cuccurullo blew past her previous career game with a 21-point night. She shot 9-of-16 from the floor and pulled down eight rebounds. Her fellow upperclassman, Miccile, dropped in 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Adelphi now begins a three-game homestand, starting Saturday (Dec. 4) with a 1:30 p.m. tip-off against NE10 rival American International College at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
