No. 9 Field Hockey Falls in NE10 Championship, 3-2

Worcester, Mass. - The No. 9 Adelphi University field hockey team fell short in its first-ever Northeast-10 Conference championship game to Assumption on Sunday, 3-2.

Giana McKeough received the Elite 24 Award for having the highest cumulative GPA of all participating student-athletes. Danielle Kempf and Alexandra Docyk were named to the All-Championship Team for their outstanding performances.

The Greyhounds (20-1, 14-0) scored the first goal of the contest with just under one minute to go in the first quarter. Assumption notched one more in the 16th minute to take an early 2-0 lead over the Panthers (14-6, 10-3).

Senior Alexandra Docyk cut the lead in half at the 17:38 mark, putting Adelphi right back in the game. The score stayed at 2-1 through the remainder of the first half.

Assumption came out in the second half with another quick tally to extend the score 3-1. The Brown and Gold kept the Greyhounds off the board for the rest of the match.

The Panthers were on the attack in the final quarter of play with six shots and four penalty corners. Graduate student Jackie Brown converted one penalty corner into a goal for the Panthers to make the score 3-2.

Amanda Montiel made seven saves in the cage for the Panthers.

The Brown and Gold await their fate in the NCAA Tournament, with hopes of earning an at-large bid. The selection show will take place tomorrow, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m.
