Manchester, NH - The Adelphi University volleyball team bounced back from its Friday evening loss to Franklin Pierce on Saturday, securing a 3-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire University inside the Stan Spirou Field House.
Noelle Alberda and
Samantha Collins contributed 12 kills each in the win, accounting for less than five errors each.
Kambel Fiser, ECAC Rookie of the Month for October, paced the offense with 39 assists and notched her fourth consecutive double-double with 16 digs.
Jaydin Nowak and
Jamie Yonker contributed 15 and 27 digs, respectively, with the former adding three of the Panther's eight service aces.
Adelphi came from behind in the opening set to take a 25-19 win, but the home team turned around in the following set with a 25-18 win of their own to even the score in the match overall.
It was a back-and-forth affair in the third frame, with 15 tie scores and four lead changes throughout. The Brown and Gold recorded a sideout percentage of 76 percent, while holding their opponent to a sub .100 hitting percentage as a team. With the help of three kills apiece from
Katie Schloss,
Lilyen McCarthy and
Delaney Kiendra, the Panthers won seven of the final nine points to improve to 2-1 in the contest.
Led by six kills from Collins in the fourth set, Adelphi was able to close out a narrow 25-23 victory to win the game, but not before they found themselves trailing by four points down the stretch. A kill from Collins sparked a four-point run for the Panthers to come within one, but SNHU managed to score the next three points to possible pull away. To Adelphi's benefit, momentum shifted and they went on a tear with Yonker at the service line, winning the last six points of the match.
The Panther squad will return to their home court for their regular season finale on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:00 p.m. The team will also be raising funds for Make-a-Wish as part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee initiative within the department. Donations will be accepted at the door in lieu of admission to the game.
