Volleyball Splits on Final Day of Regular Season

Garden City, N.Y. - After Friday night's postponement put two games on the schedule, the Adelphi University volleyball team concluded the regular season with a split, after dropping an early match to Saint Anselm, but switching gears in the nightcap to earn a win over Saint Michael's College on Saturday.

Adelphi vs. Saint Anselm (25-19, 23-25, 23-25, 14-25)
Despite opening the contest with a strong 25-19 victory, the Panthers could not close out a win over the Hawks, who went into today's match winning seven of their last nine.

Kambel Fiser collected 37 assists to conclude her rookie campaign with 798 as she finished off her 12th double-double of the year with 11 digs. Jamie Yonker accounted for 22 digs, to finish with 598 for her first year on the court for the Panthers.

The contest was pretty even when looking at the stat sheet, although Saint Anselm edged the hosts in the kill column for the last three sets. Falling by just two points in the second and third set, the Panthers ran out of steam in the finale, committing nearly as many errors as they had kills, while being held to just 14 points in the frame.

Adelphi vs. Saint Michael's (25-18, 25018, 25-9)
After celebrating the accomplishments of their lone senior, Grace Wegmann, the Panthers cruised to a three-set win over the Purple Knights, with Wegmann leading the team with 31 assists in her final outing in an Adelphi uniform.

Adelphi used an 11-1 run midway through the first set to come out of a six-point deficit and ultimately lead by four. Jaydin Nowak recorded two service aces in that stretch, as Lilyen McCarthy, Delaney Kiendra and Katie Schloss all notched kills. The home team was able to keep the visitors at bay, closing out the first with a 25-18 victory.

While ending with an identical score in the second, the Brown and Gold hit slightly better as a team after starting the set with the first four points. Saint Michael's staged a comeback to come within one, but the Panthers managed to pull away with a kill from Anna Oden

At 9-2, the Purple Knights called their first time out after the home team leapt out to a commanding lead. As a team, the visitors hit negative after being plagued with 13 errors to just six kills. With Diana Migliozzi at the serving line, the Panthers closed out the match with their opponents still in single digits, scoring the last six points consecutively to end the season with a win.

The volleyball team misses out on the Northeast-10 tournament, for just the second time since joining the league in 2009. They conclude the season at 17-11 overall.
